How to Onboard Talent for More Freedom, Income and Fulfilment Pt 1
April 13, 2018 9:48 am
Hey Guys, welcome back!
In this video we are going to talk about the 5 Key Points that you need to know when you’re onboarding talent into your company.
The first one is, Prepare the Runway and Document. It’s really important to get prepared ahead of time. You know the saying, and I’ve mentioned it before, ‘If you failed to plan, you plan to…’ I don’t even have to repeat that. The point is, the end of the game is to get clear in terms of the documents you need, the framework and then the plan for the onboarding process.
There is no scrambling around looking for documents ad hoc when the time comes because ultimately, you’re trying to patch together things in that way and we talk about the issues when we do that. You lose trust, they lose trust, they lose inspiration and frankly, it’s not the ramp up, the kind of take-off that we’re looking for with a new team member.
It’s like the guy on the runway. You’re the guy preparing everything, making sure it’s all good to go. You’re doing final checks making sure that everything is in place and ready to handover some of the tasks. You’re just ready, following the frameworks, the videos and worksheets that we’ve got coming.
Don’t do what most people and most businesses do, and have none of these in place. They really haphazardly find somebody, and then they realize after a while that the person is not happy or they’re not excited to work there anymore.
A lot of it is due to how it starts. Now, let’s start strong. This is where it really comes into play, just doing a bit of prep upfront. I’m not saying take weeks and weeks, just follow the frameworks that we’ve got to make your life much much easier.
With that said, we’re going to move to Point 2, which is to Connect and Indoctrinate them into your world.
It’s like drinking the cool aid, if you like, welcome them, build rapport and set the expectations.
Have them come into your culture and into your team. If you’ve got a few team members right now, really create a warm environment for them to step into. Show what you collectively together can create, that you’ll all be proud of.
If you have a team that is virtual and they are in the same area, get them to go out together for some food or just a social. If they are local too then do the same. It’s really about bringing them into your world and indoctrinating them into your vision, your values, your purpose where you’re going and what you stand for.
Many people say, ‘Oh, I just sell products on Amazon,’ but I believe it’s truly important to build a culture and a company with people around you that truly love what you’re doing and believe in what you do.
If you’re going to spend much of your time in work then let’s make it fun. Make it something that is going to be challenging and also something where people really want to be magnitised towards it and be part of it.
Bring them into your world and really make them part of the team. Make them feel welcome and have the other team members that are already with you also make them feel welcome.
The third point I want to talk about is Establish Rhythms and Communications to ensure that you guys, in your team, when they come onboard, you’re all rowing in the same direction to the same beat, to the same rhythm.
Finding the comms channels, the communication rhythms are just as important as the daily routines, the weekly meetings, and so forth. It’s really important to establish the rhythm for them personally, the roles that they’re going to take up.
If it’s a new customer service person or say, a general VA whose going to help recurring or ongoing tasks on a daily or weekly basis, then just get clear on the rhythms that he’s/she’s going to be doing in her specific role and also the rhythms of the company and the team.
Get clear on the communications channel. How you communicate within your team and what is expected and so forth. Then, again, you might be thinking about how I’m going to do it. We’re going to show it to you very soon in the next videos.
If it’s really about getting them in sync with your business, you kind of put them together and you’re going toward that target, right? You’ve got the compass. You know where you’re heading. This is your role at the front of the boat. We are going in this direction. This is our outcomes for the year. This is the priority for the quarter, and this is how we all row in the same direction.
This is the rhythm. This is your own role expectancies. What the rhythms are for your role, should I say, and this is how we communicate. When you have that clear within no time at all it’ll all be in sync.
Right now, check in with your a self. What you’ve learned? What you’ve noticed? And, if you like to share anything jump in the group and post away.
Thank you so much and I‘ll see you in the next video.
