Key Point 1 For Growing Your Team: Start with the End in Mind
March 03, 2018 8:01 am
In this video, I’m going to talk about 5 key points, 5 big ideas you need to know when hiring. This is what you need to know and we’re gonna dive deep into “how to” in the next few videos.
With that said, I want just to start with a point and a quote really from Richard Branson, he said, “It’s all about finding and hiring people smarter than you, getting them to join them to your business and giving them great work, and getting out of their way. You must trust them and you have to get out of the way, so you focus on the bigger vision and that’s important and here’s the main thing: you must make them see their work as their mission.”
So here’s a great quote from Mr. Branson, the legendary entrepreneur. Basically, he makes the incredible point around that we’re not just hiring people to do stuff such as tasks A-B-C, but we’re bringing them on board to be part of something bigger than themselves and to create something special that they can all be proud of.
If we’re spending most of our lives working on our businesses, we need to make it as fulfilling, as fun and as exciting as possible. Everybody’s involved, so let’s create something where people come aboard who are really inspired and fired up to help you, believe in you, and trust you. They have a clear vision of where you are going… that’s what we want.
I think Richard Branson nails that point. Let’s get started and talk about the 5 big ideas
So #1: Hire for your Needs- What, Who & When
Hire for your needs and get to know what you need, who and then when. So really start on the end in mind. If you think about it, I went into it in the previous video, if you have clarity on what your business looks like when it’s done, you can map out an org chart in Build Infrastructure Module Part 1 and Part 2.
You start in the end of mind. Part 1 is a video in Build Infrastructure Module, you gotta see the way you build out your organisational chart. Right now, all your positions, you pretty got your name in many of them. So it’s about how you remove yourself from these roles and build yourself up the org chart.
Start the End in Mind, when you are clear and when you go and you know what you need in place and it’s all up just systematically moving yourself out of the roles you’re currently fulfilling. You’re wearing all the hats and takes some of them off.
I wanna start with a point on do I hire Filipino staff or virtual staff or do I hire locally based staff so when you are just getting started? What I recommend is the first person you need to hire is somebody to do Customer Service, a high Frequency, low value tasks. It can be personal assistant for your personal life as well as somebody who is not just going to do stuff for Customer Service but they can also take a load off your personal plate too.
So that’s gonna be the first kind of person, like Filipino Virtual Staff are great for that. That’s gonna the first hire to give you a breathing space.
The second from there is somebody who is great all rounder, somebody who can work closely with you to really understand the model and all the different areas of the business.
When we first started, we brought on programer and she is an incredibly smart girl and a huge asset to our company but she really understood all the aspect of the business and started learning how to work with the apps, services and software, our business’ interacts with.
Getting familiar with the setting up, leadpages, autoresponders, funnels, and all these kinds of stuff which really helped free me. I was the only one in the details and learning how and doing all these kind of stuff, keeping me away on what’s important. Putting all these apps together and all the different technical aspects of the E-Commerce Model which we need to have done.
Basically, come on as a programer, really learn all the areas of the business and can set up website, structure websites and learn from a lot these stuff as we went but she has been incredible to hire assets in the company and really proud to have still part of our team, that’s the second person I hired.
First, about high frequency low value stuff, Customer Service and the second is an all-around that can really help making things happen and you know someone you can just rely on, just to get it and get results.
That’s the first two hires. I’m not going to dive deep right now but just wanna land on the couple of the main point. The end of the game is to build yourself out of the roles and again this is the screenshot of the video. If you haven’t seen it, check that out and you’ll be able to see right now all these different hacks and the end of the game is to build yourself out and you’re not wearing every different hats in the org chart.
