I’m just going to take you through and give you an overview of what we’re going to cover today.
Today, is all about the Diversify Growth Area on this Model. Just a quick summary, this is the Model: How We Help People to Go from Chaos to Control to Scale in their Businesses. So, we are going to do a series of sessions to help you around different areas of the business.
Right now, we are here, the last session two weeks ago, we did Install Systems, where we just covered How You Can Unlock Time? How you can unlock some periods in your week so you can focus on high-value stuff instead of doing the low-value, high-frequency things which really create a bottleneck in your business.
So, Session 1 was up here. We go now here for Session No. 2. Really, really excited about jumping on and helping you guys out.
It’s again all about how you diversify your growth in your business, and it really is about the No Giveaway Selling System. I’ve had a lot of people ask me what this is about and we’ve been doing a few workshops. A few kind of trainings for a few different groups of Amazon Sellers.
I want to give you an overview of it right now so you can really get a good feel for what it looks like. So with that said, we’re going to dive in and start.

I’m just going to roll through and really just get clear on a few of the challenges.
First things first, I just want to know where you guys are in the world? And, really where you are located. I bet there’s big diversity in this group. We got people from Germany, USA, Japan and we’ve got also Aussies in the Group. We’ve got all sorts of people from all around the world.
The next question is, How long have you been selling physical products? Really, helpful for me to understand where you guys are at and how long you’ve been of doing this.
Moving on the next one is really, What percentage of you sales comes from Amazon right now? So if you are exclusively selling on Amazon then that would be a 100%. If you’ve got 60% and you’ve got other channels, great! Just pop-in what percentage of the sales comes from Amazon. That’s going to enable me to understand where everybody in the group is at.
We’re going to switch gears and really talk about some of the challenges. You guys probably experienced some of these but giveaways are expensive and they are not getting any cheaper, especially as Amazon becomes more competitive.
That’s the big thing, the cashflow for businesses can be eaten up because we’ve given away hundreds if sometimes thousands of units over a period of 6 months and more. If you have more products, you’re giving away more units. What happens is it costs a lot. Obviously, that can eat into your cashflow to get to be able to reorder higher inventory for that product. Also, it’s going to restrict the growth of launching more products because the cashflow is being eaten up by these giveaways that you know don’t always work.
That’s the challenge, and sometimes people find themselves in a bit of catch 22. They’ve launched a product, they’ve hoped that it would get ranked but it didn’t or it did get ranked and it slipped down. They’ve used a lot of cash flow and it kind of stops them from re-ordering the units they need. They’re bit in a sticky spot.
They’re becoming less reliable and you’ve probably seen it in yourself. It’s kind of like chasing a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow in hopes that it’s going to work. Frankly, it’s becoming more and more challenging.
Again, like I just mentioned, we don’t want it to be based on hope. That is not good enough for you. It’s not good enough for me. It’s not good enough for us. So, we want to make sure that we’ve got really control of our customers without being forced to be a commodity on Amazon. Having reduced our prices because we are on page 2 or 3 we tried to launch with a giveaway but it didn’t work. We just spend a lot of money on PPC and it turns out that a lot of time we have to reduce the price.
People have to reduce the cost of their products just to get sales to break even on all of that investment. It is a huge investment of your time, money and energy. It’s kind of a challenge to have a growth from there.
There are Chinese suppliers flooding the market. A lot, or a tons of brands with deep pockets that can throw thousands and thousands of units out to giveaway and not really be affected by it. It’s hard to compete with people that can do that.
Ultimately, if you’re selling only on Amazon, then it creates the challenges if your sales, god forbids, something happens to your account then that would be the end you sales. That’s what we don’t want. We don’t want that for anybody. If we can help people avoid that and start to think about that then I deem we have done a good job.
With that said, removing yourself from having all the eggs in one basket is going to help you diversify. If you’ve not started thinking about it yet, start to think, ‘Okay, how can I build more of a diverse business without just being reliant on one channel on Amazon?’ It’s ultimately about building a strong foundation to lay the future of your business on that foundation, that strong foundation that we are looking to build.
Jeff Bezos has got a great business, right? He’s got tons of customers, in fact, hundreds of millions of customers. If you’re only selling on Amazon then pretty much out there is all his then you don’t really have any customers. So, build that Customer List. That is what we are excited to be talking about and hopefully influencing people to start doing this, and to start thinking about how they can make this a reality in their business to unlock the cash flow. Also to be not be so reliant on Amazon.
The games, going to change back in 2013 or 2014. Using only amazon is kind of great but right now it’s kind of getting more difficult and you kind of need a list of paying customers to really diversify your business.
